Macao's visitor arrivals amounted toover 2.6 million in July 2008, a year-on-year increase of 20.7 percent, according to the figures released Thursday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The figures showed that the majority of the visitors came from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and China's Taiwan, which accounted for 57.6 percent, 29.2 percent and 4.3 percent of the total, respectively. Same-day visitors took up 52.6 percent of the total arrivals, at 1,401,478.

In July, visitors from the mainland (1.53 million) and Hong Kong (778,227) rose by 29.9 percent and 8.8 percent, respectively, while those from China's Taiwan (115,103) decreased by 7 percent, according to the DSEC.

As for the first seven months of 2008, visitor arrivals reached over 17 million, up by 18.5 percent year-on-year. Visitors from the mainland (over 10 million) and Hong Kong went up by 27.5 percent and 0.2 percent respectively, while those from China's Taiwan dropped by 4.7 percent. Same-day visitors made up 52.9 percent of the total arrivals.

Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea went up by 12.5 percent over the first seven months of 2007 to over 5.5 million, and those by land and air grew by 21.5 percent and 21.2 percent, respectively, according to the DSEC.
